2023 ART AND DESIGN FACULTY EXHIBITION

August 21-September 30, 2023

  • Reception: Thursday, August 24, 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Gallery Lounge; Opening remarks at 6:15 pm by Nancy Sutton, Vice President for Academic Services, followed by a gallery talk with Joan Stolz
  • Music by José Gobbo.

This annual showcase features the work of Parkland's faculty artists and includes painting, drawing, ceramics, design, metalsmithing, photography, and video. Exhibiting faculty members include Shawn Fairchild, Bryan Heaton, Paula McCarty, Melinda McIntosh, Denise Seif, Peg Shaw, Joan Stolz, Matthew Watt, and Kelly White.

Stolz, who will discuss her paintings in the exhibition said, "Like so many of us, I'm worried about the health of the planet. This summer, with unusual heat, flooding, and fires with smoke-filled skies reaching so much of the US, has brought this very much to home. These drawings and paintings are really illustrations of extinction, and I used toy dinosaurs and other toys from the still life room to stand in for the real creatures who have already disappeared or are endangered. For me, it's an ironic twist on playfulness plus reality."

The 2023 Art and Design Faculty Exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Fall gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 am to 5 pm; Thursday, 10 am to 7 pm; and Saturday, noon to 2 pm. The gallery will be closed Monday, September 4, for Labor Day.

To find the gallery during our fall construction period, we suggest using the B7 parking lot on the south end of campus. Enter through Door X2 and turn left. Take the first uphill ramp on your right (east of the library stairs) and then the two ramps directly north of the stairs to the highest point on the first floor, where the gallery is located.
