The Parkland College Art and Design Student Juried Exhibition is an annual presentation of selected student works. Faculty within the Art and Design program jury the works. Many awards are selected from about 400 entries. This exhibition provides an educational experience for students. Preparing them for professional careers in art. While being an essential part of the academic experience. Juried exhibitions are a standard procedure for group art shows in many places. This show is a good opportunity for the students to see their work outside the classroom and in the context of other art media. “It is a great time for the students,” said Chris Berti, “I am always impressed with the quality of work our students produce.”
Awards are given in the form of Merit Awards, Purchase Awards, and an award for art supplies provided by the Art Coop. Many private individuals have generously given funds for awards. Including the Parkland President Award, The Blair Kling Award, and The David M. and Shirley A. Jones Student Art Award. In addition to the Metals Award for Jewelry/metalsmithing, the Fine and Applied Arts Chair Award, and the Parkland Art and Design Faculty Award. Two scholarships will also be presented during the awards reception and include the Don Lake Art Scholarship and the Underwood-Alger Scholarship.
