Call for Entry
Giertz Gallery at Parkland College in collaboration with 40 North: Champaign County Arts Council presents a call for entry for Around the Block III: Artists from Our Virtual Neighborhood, during a time when in-person engagement is impacted due to the pandemic. Selected works will be showcased on our social media sites and will feature the work of regional artists from Champaign County and surrounding areas. Giertz Gallery will also produce an online catalog to highlight and promote the creativity that exists throughout our community.

Camille Wilson White, Executive Director of the Oak Park Area Arts Council. She is a board member of the Arts Alliance Illinois, the state arts advocacy organization and serves as co-chair of LAN (Local Arts Network), a partnership program between the Illinois Arts Council and the Arts Alliance Illinois to build capacity and excellence amongst arts agencies.
Open to all artists 18 years and older residing in Champaign County and Counties within the Parkland College 505 District, including Ford, Coles, Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Iroquois, Livingston, Moultrie, McLean and Vermilion. All work must be original and not previously exhibited at the Giertz Gallery. Work completed under an instructor’s supervision is not eligible. Only works completed since January of 2018 will be accepted. The juror will make all final determinations.
Submitted works may be in the following disciplines: painting, sculpture, ceramics, metals, drawing, printmaking, photography, textiles, video, and mixed media.
Work will be accepted only at the gallery’s discretion. Giertz Gallery has the right to exclude any artwork. Any artwork that does not meet the above guidelines will not be accepted for exhibition.
Jurying will be conducted through online submission. Please use the online form provided. No mailed applications will be accepted.
Images of the artwork must be entered online as a jpeg. This is an online exhibition only. Giertz Gallery requests digital images in 72 dpi – and (1200 x 630 pixels) – jpeg file format. Images should be named using the following format: LastName_FirstName_Submission#.JPG (example: Kahlo_Frida_1.JPG)
Artists will be notified on Thursday, June 4, 2021.
All participants are advised that Parkland College (“Parkland”), the Giertz Gallery and 40 North, Champaign County Arts Council, reserve the right to use and display images of all art work submitted in the Around the Block III virtual exhibition as a part of its publicity and marketing efforts. Participants enter the contest with the understanding that images of their art work might be included, published, or used in Parkland publications including print, broadcast, or electronic media, for publicity, commercial, or marketing purposes, and participation in Parkland’s Around the Block III exhibition constitutes individuals’ consent to the inclusion, publication, or use of their names, pictures, images, voices, and likenesses in Parkland publications, both printed and electronic, for publicity, commercial, promotional, or marketing purposes. Additionally, Giertz Gallery at Parkland College reserves the right to reject works that have been inaccurately represented by the image.
Giertz Gallery will post select images of the works accepted on their social media platforms. Not all entries will be included online; Parkland College will exercise sole discretion in determining which images to include.
A $20.00 jury fee entitles each artist to submit a maximum of three artworks. Due to logistical constraints only one piece per artist will be accepted. All fees are nonrefundable and payable by credit card at time of online submission. A fee waiver may be requested based on financial hardship due to COVID-19. Works not for sale should be listed “NFS.” A list of artworks available for sale will be included on gallery website. Due to the online nature of this exhibition Giertz Gallery will not take a commission for the sale of work.
The Entry Deadline
The entry deadline is Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at 11:59 pm.
Artists will be notified of their acceptance via email provided by the artist on the submission form. Please see calendar for notification dates.
Reception is scheduled to take place online via Zoom at 6 pm, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. A link will be sent via email provided on the submission form. Registration is required. Artists need not be present but we hope you will join us. Click here to register for the celebration.
Checklist of Items to Prepare Before Submitting
- artist statement (two or three sentences about the artwork)
- image(s) of artwork
- title (list as "Untitled" if the work doesn't have a title)
- year completed
- size of original work (height x width x depth)
- NFS or For Sale_price
