Dr. Matthew Hurt has a Ph.D in American Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he taught both literature and film studies for ten years before joining the faculty at Parkland College. In 2001, to celebrate the “birth” of HAL-9000 (the murderous computer from Stanly Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey), Dr. Hurt created the website “CyberCinema,” which analyzed representations of artificial intelligence in films from the 1950s to the present. At Parkland, Dr. Hurt teaches online sections of Film Appreciation as well as courses in writing and literature.
