Summer Youth Employment in the Arts (SYEA) grants awarded by the Illinois Arts Council have enabled the Giertz Gallery to fund a paid Summer Internship Program for recent high school graduates interested in the visual arts.
In addition to providing a source of income for the summer, this internship offers youth opportunities to gain employment skills in an art-related setting, to inform their career paths, and to build self-confidence and job readiness. Interns assist gallery staff with installing artwork, serve as gallery monitors, curate and install a mini-exhibition, and learn about the care and handling of artwork.
This year our summer interns will assist the gallery staff with installing artwork for the exhibition "Illinois at 200"; serve as gallery monitors; curate and install a mini-exhibition on our campus; and learn about the care and handling of artwork. They will also meet with art educators and Parkland College Marketing Staff.
Please check back for possible 2019 internship opportunities.
