BusinessThis community provides a supportive learning network for business students in ENG 099 (writing) and CCS 099 (reading). Parkland College’s Business Student First Year Community can combine these two courses into ONE course, with readings that focus on course content from BUS 101, Introduction to Business. Students only pay for 4 credit hours instead of 6 by taking this integrated course.Criminal JusticeThis community is for students ready to take ENG 099 (writing) and CCS 099 (reading). Parkland College’s Criminal Justice Student First Year Community can combine these two courses into ONE course, with readings that focus on course content from CJS 101, Introduction to Criminal Justice. Students only pay for 4 credit hours instead of 6 by taking this integrated course.Health ProfessionsIn the HP First Year Community, students take both ENG 099 (writing) and CCS 099 (reading) as ONE linked course, with course work that focuses on health-preparatory science topics. Assignments from this class prepare students for required courses such as BIO 121 and CHEM 106. As a part of this community, students learn and grow in courses with the same group of students. Note: Students joining this community are strongly encouraged to register for PSY 109 in fall.Together We Achieve (TWA)TWA is a First Year Community designed to address the needs and interests of African-American male first-year students at Parkland College. This community provides support in reading and writing, and centers on Dr. Willie Fowler’s dynamic American Government class. As part of TWA, students support each other in courses and enjoy opportunities to participate in cookouts, movie nights, and lunches. Peer mentoring and lots of academic support are built into this unique learning opportunity.
