Wellness Center
Health & Wellness Information
Parkland's Wellness Center is a wellspring of health related information. Its purpose is to distribute information about health and wellness to students, faculty and staff of Parkland College. But, it doesn't stop there! It extends into the community as well, with liasons at Provena and Carle to further its efforts in the administration of the most accurate and up-to-date information as possible. The Wellness Center is located in the Health Department of Parkland College, most easily accessed through the "L" wing entrance of the college. The functions of the Center are multifaceted, however, it does not administer health services in that it is not a clinic. If there is an onsite emergency, Public Safety should be contacted immediately. The Office of Public Safety is located in X109, or you may phone 351-2369 from a regular phone, or 2369 from any house phone.
The Wellness Center is a health and wellness resource center and referral service, located in L122, and is staffed by a Wellness Coordinator who is able to refer to appropriate health care providers based on available resources and health care need. Some of the services that are provided by the Wellness Center include:
- Collaborating with various college departments to provide various health events, programs and initiatives.
- Being available to provide health information to individuals, groups and classes.
- Writing health related articles for various publications.
- Making referrals to various community agencies and health care providers.
- Maintaining health records for health career students.
- Assisting in finding information about specific health related topics.
- Providing assistance to persons who want to quit smoking.
- Providing assistance with stress management.
- Providing alcohol and other drug education.
- Coordinating blood drives.
- Providing blood borne pathogen training to at-risk employees.
- Following up on reportable communicable disease exposure to ensure campus safety.
- Coordinating the Christie health series on the Parkland TV channel.
