Humanities Field Experiences (HUM 124)
Italy trip: July 18-31, 2017
HUM 124 Class dates: June 19-August 10, 2017

Join Professors Kaizad Irani, and Gregory Pierceall on this walking field tour of Rome with visits to surrounding areas. Discover the history, architecture, landscapes, and culture of Italy. Visit churches, museums, fountains, gardens, and shops of Rome.

What You Will Study
  • Humanities Field Experiences (HUM 124)
    Professors Kaizad Irani, and Gregory Pierceall
    This course develops an appreciation of a country’s culture through a greater understanding art, music, literature, philosophy, geography, history and other cultural aspects. The travel component of the course synthesizes the topics studied and enhances knowledge of the new culture.  (For Study Abroad Only)
Additional costs:
Some meals, transportation to airport, passport and three credit hours’ tuition from Parkland for HUM 124. Choose a payment plan through EF Tours. The sooner you register, the easier it will be.

Application Process
  1. Contact Jody Littleton for a Parkland application form: Room C126 or or 217/351-2532.
  2. Once application form has been accepted and approved, you will register online with EF Tours to complete your payment plan.
  3. EF Tours can help you with trip fundraising, through an online donation site that will help friends, family members, and others contribute to your study abroad program costs.
  4. Degree-seeking students: Taking HUM 124 is required for earning trip credit. You will receive a bill from Parkland College for your class.  
  • The program is open to anyone—student, faculty, or community member.
  • All applicants will be required to complete an application and interview to determine seriousness and ability to benefit from the program.
  • Degree-seeking college students must be enrolled in HUM 124 in order to take part in the study abroad. All those who intend to apply for college credit through the program must provide proof of a 2.75 GPA as well as having completed 12 credit hours of college-level work, including ENG 101. In addition, all individuals who have been accepted to participate will be subsequently required to complete a medical history.
  • Community members who are not degree-seeking students have the option to enroll in an alternate noncredit workshop taught by Kaizad Irani, and Gregory Pierceall instead of enrolling in HUM 124.

Application Deadline
March 31, 2017 with $500/deposit. Early registration is encouraged!

Participant Eligibility

Student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours, including ENG 101, with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75.
