Placement Testing
Before classes begin, students who speak English as a second or foreign language must take the ESL Compass Placement Test. This test determines whether a student must be placed in only ESL classes, is qualified to take a combination of ESL and academic courses, or may begin only academic courses.

Pre-college ESL Level Testing
Before classes begin, students must take level tests for ESL 080, ESL 090, and ESL 096 pre-college courses.
  • ESL 090 and ESL 096:
Before the semester begins, call the Assessment Center at 217/351-2432 to schedule a testing session.
  • ESL 080:
ESL 080 testing is held in room D244 one week before classes begin, on the same day and time as your class is scheduled. Example: If your ESL class is on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9-10:50 a.m. and begins August 30, your testing will be held at 9 a.m. on August 23.

If you have any questions,  please email Tracey Brown or call 217/353-2083.
