Wind Ensemble

wind ensemble performing

The Parkland Wind Ensemble is a dynamic, contemporary ensemble in the model of a small concert band. Every musician has a distinct part, and every part is important. The ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays, from 6:30 – 9:15 pm in room C148, and includes student members enrolled for credit as well as community members ranging from 15 years old to retired seniors.

This ensemble consists of wind instruments traditionally found in school bands, and can be considered an extension of that model for instrumental music education. The instruments included are flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. The focus of music performed favors modern compositions, popular music, and orchestral transcriptions.

The Wind Ensemble performs twice each semester in the Harold and Jean Miner Theater on the Parkland Campus, as well as performances associated with the Parkland Honors Convocation and Commencement exercises every May. The smaller size of this ensemble allows it to perform off-campus as well. Venues for these performances have included the Windsor of Savoy, the Parade of Lights celebration in downtown Champaign, Carriage Crossing, and Market on the Square in Urbana.
