The Parkland College Concert Band is an ensemble that can be taken as a credit course (MUS148) or for no credit (CMS448). The ensemble rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in Room C148 on the campus of Parkland College. Enrollment is open to individuals 16 years old and older. Participation in the ensemble requires an audition for placement. This audition should be completed prior to the start of a semester.
The Concert Band draws most of its participants from the greater Champaign-Urbana area. Two formal concerts per semester are presented on campus. Additional performance opportunities in the area are added when practical.
The ensemble draws its repertoire from many styles of band literature. Every attempt is made to program literature that is challenging, yet playable. Most programs contain a good representation of older standard band works and more contemporary selections.
