Food Repack Scheduled for MLK National Day of Service
Public invited to help repack oats, spices for those in need
Parkland College faculty, staff, students, and their families will step up to serve as volunteers on the 25th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Volunteers will help repack food for the Wesley Food Pantry at Parkland College, joining Americans across the country in volunteer service.

DETAILS: The Center for Community Engagement at Parkland College has planned a day of service that will leverage the strength of local citizens to help tackle local problems and advance Dr. King's dream of opportunity for all. Parkland College employees will join with the Wesley Food Pantry to repack oats and create a spice mix for the campus-based pantry. Wesley Food Pantry in Urbana aims to alleviate food insecurity in Champaign and Urbana by providing families with a week's worth of nutritious groceries. Its satellite pantry at Parkland was launched in December 2013.
The annual MLK Day of Service honors Dr. King’s legacy and is an opportunity for Americans to renew their own personal vows of citizenship through service to others and engage in conversations to advance community goals.The Corporation for National and Community Service is the federal agency leading the annual day of service, working with thousands of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, schools, and businesses nationwide. The Center for Community Engagement supports and promotes the active engagement of Parkland College's students, faculty, and staff in partnership with the communities of Illinois Community College District 505. In collaboration with the community-based organizations of District 505, and through such co-curricular forms of community engagement as service-learning and volunteerism, the Center for Community Engagement will not only support Parkland College's commitment to "engage the community in learning," but also help fulfill our commitment to value "active citizenship."
