Get Full College Credit in Late-Start (13-Week) Classes

Sign up by Sept. 9 to earn full-semester credits in accelerated formats

Although the deadline to enroll in Parkland College's full-term fall classes has passed, it is not too late for those who missed registering on time to enroll in courses for full-semester credit.

Sign up for Parkland's 13-week classes, which begin the week of Sept. 10. The college developed the 13-week option as part of its on-time registration process, to help fit classes to the community's needs. Plenty of on-campus and online options are available in topics such as accounting, English, history, communication, biology, computers, psychology, foreign languages, literature, math and music. Career-specialty classes in aviation, construction, welding, collision, and other fields are also available.

Complete all enrollment steps (including course registration) for the 13-week session by Sept. 9. The deadline includes making payment arrangements for reserved classes.

Enrollment Blitz 2018 to Help Students Register for Fall

One-stop help with applying, financial aid, placement tests, more

As Parkland College gears up for its fall semester, its Student Services units are once again offering over a week of one-stop help with registering for classes.

Fall Enrollment Blitz 2018 runs August 9–17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on the second-floor "bridge" of the Student Union. Please note: Parkland College's campus is closed Aug. 10. Since Parkland College Fall Semester 2018 classes start Monday, Aug. 20, the event comes right on cue, especially for those who may have applied to Parkland but not taken a class.

During Enrollment Blitz, new and returning students can receive one-stop service from Parkland's Admissions and Records, Counseling and Advising, Financial Aid, and Assessment units. Students can get help with anything from completing applications for admission or financial aid, to determining course placement for math and English, to attending a Parkland student orientation (SOAR) session and registering onsite for classes.

For more information on this event, contact Admissions and Records at 217/351-2482 or admissions@parkland.edu.

Year-Round Pell Grants Available for Summer

Third disbursement may be available; contact Financial Aid office to apply

Parkland College students eligible for the Pell Grant may be able to receive a third disbursement of the award, based on a recent Department of Education announcement.

Students who already received a full Pell Grant during the fall and spring semesters may now qualify for "Year-round Pell" and thus receive a full Pell Grant during the summer semester as well, the DOE reported.

Year-round Pell allows students to receive up to 150 percent of a regular grant award over the course of the academic year, so that they can continue taking classes in the summer and finish their degrees faster than they would otherwise. With careful planning, Pell Grant recipients may take advantage of this new regulation to earn their degree faster.

According to the new regulation, any Pell Grant received over the summer will be included in determining the student's Pell Grant lifetime limit.

To be eligible for the additional Pell Grant funds, a student:

• must be otherwise eligible to receive Pell Grant funds for the payment period
• must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) during the summer term
• must be maintaining satisfactory academic progress

Students who have been awarded Pell Grants for the 2017‐2018 academic year are encouraged to contact the Financial Aid office at 217/351-2222 or finaid@parkland.edu for assistance with summer 2018 financial planning.
