Start Your Career Exploration in 5 Minutes!

We share 8 easy tips to engage with your future

We want everyone to know: career exploration is a lifelong activity. That doesn’t mean it has to be a chore! You can jump-start your own exploration in just a few minutes. Try building some of these activities in your week:

  1. Ask Yourself One Big Question
“Where do I want to be in 5 years?”
Think about the kind of work, lifestyle, or impact you want. This can help guide your next steps.

  1. List What You Enjoy
Write down 3 things you enjoy doing, whether in school, work, or free time. Then ask: “What jobs use these skills or interests?”

  1. Check Out a Job Title
Pick one job you’ve heard of and Google it. Look at what people in that role do, what they earn, and what education they need.

  1. Think About Your Strengths
What are you good at? Talking to people? Solving problems? Working with your hands? Match your strengths to possible careers.

  1. Use a Career Assessment
Take a free online career quiz (Career Services has 3!) to get ideas based on your interests and personality.

  1. Talk to Someone
Ask a classmate, instructor, or advisor: “What do you think I’d be good at?” A quick conversation can open up new ideas.

  1. Set One Small Goal
Choose one thing to do this week: read about a career, take an assessment, or update your résumé. Career Services has resources for all of these!
