2025 Outstanding Staff Award - Green Winner
Megan Johnson
Megan Johnson graduated from Parkland College’s veterinary technology program in 2009. She started working part-time here in 2017 as a lab assistant and enjoyed helping students. When she started a full-time job opened in 2022, she applied right away.
Megan is the lead Certified Veterinary Technician in all the labs. She says, "I love seeing students understand the lessons and use them. I have a great relationship with the students and get to mentor them in their careers." She also advises the Vet Tech Club, which helps first- and second-year students work together and do community service. The club has organized donation drives for local clinics and shelters, collecting things like pet food, cleaning products, toys, and blankets. Their biggest drive was a towel and blanket drive, which they gave to local clinics and shelters.
Megan also coordinates summer internships and visits students at clinics. She says, "I love representing Parkland College and showing clinics the program. Every year, I send gift baskets and thank-you cards to the clinics that hosted our students because their support is very important for learning."
Her nominator wrote, “Megan is a natural leader. She takes on extra tasks and always does her work with a cheerful outlook.”
