ESL Career training (ielce)

Parkland College Adult Education provides special short-term training designed for ESL students to enter career pathway programming. Students who complete their program will earn either a college credential or license that will enable them to enter the workforce as an entry-level professional in that field. Testing is required for enrollment to determine student readiness for credit-bearing courses.

Current Programs

English Communications for Commercial Driving (ECDL)

Leads to: Parkland's Commercial Driver's License program (Community Education)

Prepares Adult Education advanced level ESL students to go into Parkland's programming for Commercial Driving. Successful students will develop an understanding of English language terminology related to large commercial vehicles and the transportation industry. Students who complete the ECDL class are expected to move forward and complete Parkland’s Truck Driver Training (CDL) programming.   • Continuous support from a Parkland Pre-College ESL instructor
  • Assistance understanding eligibility requirements for follow-up CDL class
  • Continuous support for obtainment of high school diploma (if needed)
  • Assistance with obtainment of funding (WIOA and grants)
  • Transition support for career readiness or education advancement
English Communications for Nursing Assistant (ECNA)

Leads to: Parkland's Nursing Assistant program (Health Professions)

Prepares Adult Education advanced level ESL students to go into college-level programming for Nursing Assistants. Successful students will develop an understanding of English language health professions terminology and learn the structure of American healthcare institutions. Students who complete the ECNA class are expected to move forward and complete Parkland's Nursing Assistant (CNA) programming. View the Parkland College Catalog to view the CNA course breakdown.
