Ask about Free Tutoring!

Tutors work with learners in public locations such as libraries, churches, and Adult Basic Education classrooms. Most popular are the free drop-in tutoring sites offered in Champaign, Urbana, and the surrounding area each week:

  • Mondays 9:30–11:30am @ the Urbana Free Library
  • Wednesdays 12:30–2:30pm @ Parkland College room C134
  • Thursdays 6–8pm @ the Wesley Food Pantry, Green & Goodwin, Urbana (including childcare)*
  • Fridays 9:30–11:30am @ the Champaign Public Library

*The Project READ tutoring site at the Wesley Food Pantry on Thursday evenings provides childcare facilities and trained childcare staff!  Parents who would like childcare MUST request this at least 2 days IN ADVANCE. Parents must sign up each week.  The sign-up will close when all childcare slots are full.

Call or email Project READ at 217/353-2662 or ProjectREAD@parkland.edu if you have questions about childcare or tutoring services.

Become a Project READ Volunteer Tutor!

Volunteers are needed throughout the Parkland College district. All Project READ tutors complete a minimum of 12 hours of formal training to earn certification in Adult Learning. Training for new tutors is a combination of online lessons through the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, face-to-face training, and classroom observation. We offer face-to-face training sessions at least once a month. Sign up for an “Intro to Tutoring” on our Sign-up page.
