Parkland College Trustees Return for First Monthly Meeting of 2025

It was the first regular meeting of the Spring 2025 semester

In its first regular meeting of the Spring 2025 semester, the Parkland College Board of Trustees approved a boiler replacement and purchased group travel services to enrich community residents.

Trustees approved the purchase of a new boiler for the college's Dodds Athletic Complex (P-Wing) from Urbana-based Davis-Houk Mechanical Inc. for $388,800, one of the college's deferred maintenance projects.

In addition, board members approved Parkland Community Education's selection of Club Europa of Urbana to provide $145,000 in customized group travel tour services for community members taking a 12-night journey to Rome, Assisi, and the Tuscany area in Fall 2025. Services include transportation, accommodations, private and public tours, guides, gratuity, and some meals. Participant fees will cover the costs of this group travel opportunity, and registration information will be available soon on the Community Education website.

Douglas County EDC Executive Director Brian Moody presented details on a proposed property tax agreement to trustees during their meeting Wednesday. The agreement would establish a value on a brownfield property in Douglas County that would attract a company considering the property for a new $750 million corn wet milling and biofermentation manufacturing plant. Trustees decided to postpone a vote on the measure until their next meeting.

During the meeting, trustees also approved:

  • the filing of grant applications:
    • Illinois Community College Board (ICCB): FY25 Scaling and Assessing Developmental Education Reform Act Project
    • National Science Foundation (NSF): Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation program (EFRI)—EFRI BEGIN OI: Neurocomputers Integrating 3D Patterned Neural Organoids and Solid-State Electronics for Biocomputing
  • personnel appointments and modifications:
