Parkland College Ensembles Open Fall 2024 Concert Season in October

Parkland College's fall 2024 concert season will open in October.

Parkland College's fall 2024 concert season will open with a weekend of performances beginning in October.

The season opens Saturday, October 12, with a joint concert by the Parkland Guitar Ensemble and Parkland College Orchestra titled “Fall Ensemble Americana" at 4 p.m. in the Harold and Jean Miner Theatre.

The orchestra, directed by Rodney Mueller, will perform “Prairie Song” by Carl Strommen; “Ghosts of Antietam,” (2012) by Joseph Jan McIntyre; Suite From “Star Wars Epic” Part 1 (2007) by John Williams, arranged by Robert W. Smith; “Hoe-down” (1946) by Aaron Copland from Rodeo; and “American River” (2013) by George Gershwin, Traditional, Stephen Foster, arranged by Mike Lewis.

Director Young Kim will lead the guitar ensemble in performing “Invention No.1” by J.S. Bach, “London Trio” by J. Haydn, “I Want You Around” by The Ramones, and “Up Town” by Barry Greene.

On Sunday, October 13, the Parkland Wind Ensemble will perform “October Sky” at 3 p.m. at the William Staerkel Planetarium. Directed by Dr. Jonathan Beckett, the group will perform a number of songs.

These include “Glory of the Gridiron” (1932) by Harry L. Alford, “Pacific Panorama” by David Bennet, “Man of La Mancha” by Mitch Leigh, “'S Wonderful” by George Gershwin, arranged by Warren Barker (1923-1996) and “Early California” by Robert Choate.
