CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — "The Distance Between" exhibition, featuring art in various mediums from seven esteemed US artists and faculty members, is set to open at the Giertz Gallery at Parkland College on Feb. 19, remaining open until March 26.

An exhibiting artist reception is scheduled for Feb. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. including a gallery talk by artist Kelsey Blacklock and music from the Brad Wheeler Trio.

All programs at Giertz Gallery, including the exhibit, reception, and lectures, are free of charge and open to all art enthusiasts. The Gallery showcases artists from across the country and seeks to stimulate discussions through diverse artistic expressions.

The theme of "The Distance Between" centers around the concept of "distance" in relation to time, memory, location, materiality, and longing. The meaning of distance is often ambiguous in the work, leading the viewer to explore the content and experience new perspectives.

Participating artists include Blacklock of Indianapolis, Ind.; Yolanda del Amo of New York, N.Y.; Mitch Eckert of Louisville, Ky.; Margaret Hull of Detroit, Mich.; Jackson Martin of Asheville, N.C.; Jennifer Seo of Spokane, Wash.; and Chunbo Zhang of Schaumburg, Ill.
