Parkland College Trustees Approve Grant Applications, Swear in Public Safety Officer

Parkland College trustees swore in a new public safety officer at its regular meeting Wednesday and acted on new grant applications and personnel appointments.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Parkland College trustees swore in a new public safety officer at its regular meeting Wednesday and acted on new grant applications and personnel appointments.

Erik Combs was approved as a peace officer in the Parkland College Public Safety Department. He is a 1993 alum of Parkland College and is active in the community, coaching archery at Champaign's Jefferson Middle School from 2012-2019.

The board also filed grant applications for several programs, including the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) REV Up grant for electric vehicles; ICCB Digital Instruction for Adult Learners grant; and the IDEAS from U.S. Department of State—Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).

Trustees also approved:

  • purchase of a 2020 Case SR240 Skid Loader from Birkey’s Farm Store of Gibson City, $44,000
  • a resolution acknowledging the use of Series 2008 and Series 2009 debt certificate funds to pay for work contracts made under the Installment Purchase Agreement
  • the following personnel appointments:
    • Staci Disney, Associate Director, Marketing and Public Relations
    • Zachary Chalk, Flight Instructor, Aviation
    • Logan Dirr, Flight Instructor, Aviation
    • Kristen Wall, Dental Hygiene Faculty, Health Professions
    • Emily Gregg, Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator, Health Professions
    • Nancy Roth, CNA Faculty, Health Professions
    • Shari Wurthmann, Print Production and Installation Specialist, Mailroom
    • Caleb Manzella, Apple Tech. Support Specialist, Campus Technologies
    • Solomon Hamm, Administrative Assistant, Campus Technologies
    • Owen Zhou, Information Security Analyst, Campus Technologies
