Champaign, Ill. — Giertz Gallery at Parkland College presents artist talks July 12 and July 19, featuring artists participating in the exhibition Around the Block IV: Artists from Our Neighborhood. Both presentations will occur in Lecture Hall C118 at noon.

"This lecture series enables us to share with the community a sampling of the artists who are part of the creative culture that thrives in our region," said Lisa Costello, director of Giertz Gallery. The artists will discuss their work followed by a reception  where guests may visit with the artists.

The first artist lecture is Wednesday, July 12 at noon with Robert Chapman, Christopher Reme, Lynn Hawkinson Smith, and Natalie Troyer. The second artist lecture is Wednesday, July 19 at noon with Sandra Hynds, Sara Jahn, Billie Theide, and Nathan Westerman. To close out the exhibit, a reception will be held Wednesday, July 26, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with music by Jose' Gobbo. Juror Christopher Schneberger will give a gallery talk about the show at 6:15 p.m.  This juried art exhibition reflects the caliber of creative flourish in mid-central Illinois, featuring 63 works from the region selected by Christopher Schneberger, assistant professor of photography and gallery directory at Vincennes University.  Participating artists include: Tim Abel, Jan Adams, Jodi Adams, Adoni Naveed, Carol Alison, Gary Beaumont, Jo Birdwell, Thomas Brewer, Robert Chapman, Jenni Chi, Yeong Choi, Carol-Lynn Camparetto, Miranda Cork, Barbara Curtis, Claire Daly, Sabrina Donnelly, Darin Doty, EKAH, Christy Elamma, Jeff Evans, Viktoria Ford, Lori Fuller, Faith Gabel, Michael Holtz, Maia Huddleston, Sandra Hynds, Sara Jahn, Judith Johnson, Lisa Kesler, Bruce Kloth, Brian Knox, Carolyn Knox, Jill Lagerstam, Donald Lake, Casey Lowry, Karissa Marshall, Ann McDowell, Anne McIntyre, Ingrid Melief, Melissa Mitchell, Deborah Neumayer, Christina Nordholm, Shannon Percoco, Robert Petersen, Christopher Reme, Annelise Rhoads, Mandy Roeing, Ralph Roether, Gail Rost, Jennifer Seas, Lynn Hawkinson Smith, David Smith, David Spears, Bonnie Switzer, Billie Theide, Grant Thomas, Michael O. Thomas, Natalie Troyer, Nathan Westerman, Cindy Westfall, Andrew White, Kelly Hieronymus Whiting, and Martha Willi.  All events in the handicapped-accessible gallery are free and open to the public. Summer gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Giertz Gallery is located on the Parkland College campus at 2400 W. Bradley Ave., Champaign. Please note: Construction is ongoing this summer to the outdoor area north of the gallery. Therefore, the entrance we usually recommend is not accessible at this time. Instead we recommend using the B7 parking lot (X2 entrance) to visit the gallery or Lecture Hall C118. Once inside the building, you will follow all the upward ramps and signs to the designated location. Parkland College is a section 504/ADA-compliant institution.
