National Library Week Events at Parkland Library

Events help celebrate the 60th anniversary of the national observation

National Library Week, sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the United States, is now in its 60th year. Parkland College Library has been observing the week for several years, with events designed to get students, faculty, and community members involved and excited about the library.

This year's theme is "Libraries Lead." The public is invited to join the Parkland College community April 9–13 for any or all of the events listed below to celebrate another year of learning!

Coffee Kickoff
Monday, April 9
Join us all day for free coffee and tea in the library. Free donuts starting at 8 a.m. while supplies last. Check out a book or view books for sale.

Cupcake-A-Book Entry Registration Deadline
Monday, April 9, 5 p.m., Library
Forms must be received by 5 p.m.; entries must be submitted between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11.

Library Love Photo Booth  
Tuesday, April 10, near the Library entrance
Take a photo at this daylong event. Post it on Instagram, using #ParklandLibraryLove. We'll repost it and choose a winner!

Let's Read Poetry
Tuesday, April 10, 3 p.m., Flag Lounge
Listen to faculty members Rochelle Harden and Amy Penne read their favorite poems. If you're feeling brave, share your favorite!

 

Cupcake-A-Book Contest
Wednesday, April 11, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., College Center
Cupcake adaptions of popular (and/or favorite) books will be on display. Vote for your favorite design with a donation of any amount to support the Wesley Food Pantry at Parkland. 

 

Parkland READ Poster Unveiling
Thursday, April 12, noon, Library Reading Lounge
For the 14th year in a row, Parkland Library has commissioned its own READ poster featuring someone employed at Parkland College and designed by a Parkland College student. It's okay to wonder who's on the READ poster; join us to find out who receives the honor this year!

3D Printer Open House
Friday, April 13, 1–3 p.m., Library's 3D printing area
Stop by and see how 3D printing works, what kind of software we use and how to find or make models. Take home a souvenir! Preprinted items will be available for free, and we will print requests on a first come, first serve basis.
