Professional Development and Instructional Technology (PDIT) supports the adoption of innovative and effective practices in teaching, learning and instructional technology.
One of the ways that Parkland’s commitment to excellence is demonstrated is through the work of PDIT to support teaching and learning through the overlapping domains of faculty development, instructional design and instructional technology. Through the collaborative work, consultation, and a variety of programming and services PDIT helps faculty implement their ideas, find solutions to their teaching challenges, and improve their teaching practice. Some of the ways PDIT supports excellence in teaching and learning include:
- Space for faculty and staff to meet formally or informally to collaborate and learn from one another at The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) – located in D114-D118. CETL also provides a system for ongoing professional development through a Faculty Academy and ongoing workshops and sessions about current and relevant topics of interest to all employees.
- Collaboration and resources to improve learning outcomes and student success in online classes. Parkland College is a leader in online learning and actively works to support faculty efforts for continuous improvement in the quality of online courses.
- Resources, support and training to help faculty use media effectively and appropriately. This includes: Parkland College Television (PCTV), a green screen recording room, video production software available for faculty, and a process to help faculty find captioning solutions to make all instructional videos fully accessible.
