What you’ll do:
Parkland's AAS degree program prepares you to work as a head teacher, co-teacher, or assistant teacher in licensed preschool facilities. The degree also confers all the requirements necessary to direct a day care center in Illinois or run a home-based childcare facility. The CDA Preparation Certificate prepares you for Child Development Associate (CDA) assessment by fulfilling the requirement for 120 clock hours of training in eight application subject areas.

Both programs allow many hours of observation and practice with caring for children at Parkland's Child Development Center and other area child care facilities and agencies.

Where you’ll go:

With your AAS degree, you will be prepared for immediate employment as a preschool teacher, home day care operator, or childcare worker in schools, religious institutions, community organizations, and/or the government. You may advance to supervisory  positions or administrative positions in large childcare centers or preschools, with further experience and additional training; most of your courses are transferable to four-year instutitions that offer bachelor's or master's degrees. Upon completing the CDA Preparation Certificate and earning a CDA credential from the Council for Professional Recognition, you are qualified to work in an approved day care or home-based family facility. You are also eligible to apply your certificate credit toward the Child Development AAS degree.
