What you'll do:
To quote Dr. Seuss, "Oh, the places you'll go!" Parkland College offers a number of different chemistry options depending on your educational and occupational plans:
  • Leaning toward dental, medical, pharmacy, or veterinary school or careers in the biological sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, geology, or science education? General Chemistry I & II (CHE 101 & 102) and Organic Chemistry I & II with labs (CHE 203-206) are recommended.
  • Interested in a Health Professions career program such as dental hygiene, dietetic technician, R.N., LPN, occupational therapy assistant, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, surgical technology, or veterinary technology? Chemistry for Health Professions (CHE 106) is an excellent choice. Chemistry for Health Professions II (CHE 107) can benefit those heading into the health careers who don't need CHE 101 and 102, but want more than just CHE 106.
  • Just curious about chemistry? You might want to check out Chemistry of Everyday Life (CHE 104).
  • Haven't had any chemistry courses, or has it been a while since you've taken them? Introduction to Chemistry (CHE 100) will help you get started on the right foot for your chemistry path.
Whatever your plans, a course or two in chemistry can be a benefit. You will learn, understand, and apply scientific concepts in small class sizes with caring instructors; experiment, research, and calculate; use computer simulations and collect and manipulate data; and visit people using chemistry every day. Many of the courses listed above count for general education credits, too. Check with your career program or possible transfer school to make sure you are picking the right chemistry course for you.

Where you'll go:
After Parkland, transfer to a four-year institution or go to graduate or professional school to train for a variety of chemistry-related careers:
Professor or teacher
Lab chemist
Patent attorney
Science writer
Forensics lab technician
Health careers: doctor, pharmacist, chiropractor, veterinarian, dentist, nurse
Waste Management
Art Restoration
