The Parkland Department of Natural Sciences teaches you about the nature and practice of science, with courses in chemistry, physics, astronomy, meteorology, geology, biology, evolution, environmental biology, microbiology, kinesiology, forensic science, and human anatomy and physiology. You can take many of these courses online. All of these disciplines address the increasingly important issues of scientific literacy and how science relates to our society.

Besides serving you with preparatory, career, and transfer-level courses, Natural Sciences also takes an active role in community activities and programs by hosting an annual Science Fair for central Illinois middle and high school students; offering noncredit courses through Parkland’s Community Education department; and housing the Institute for Science Education, which produces the Parkland television channel’s series Surrounded by Science. This department also includes the Parkland Fitness Center and the William M. Staerkel Planetarium (second largest in Illinois), both of which are used regularly by students and the community.
