Respiratory Care AAS

What you’ll do:
As you prepare to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), you’ll engage in campus-based classroom and laboratory instruction, along with clinical experience at area acute care hospitals, clinics, long term care facilities, and home care companies. Parkland also offers interactive distance education to students in the Lakeland, Richland, Heartland, and Danville Area Community College districts; these students may complete most of the classroom and clinical portions of the RT program at locations within their home college district.

Where you’ll go:
As a respiratory therapist, you’ll perform diagnostic tests, provide treatment, and educate patients of all ages with a variety of respiratory illnesses or cardiopulmonary dysfunction. This career is in growing demand in the United States, due to chronic lung disease being the fourth leading cause of U.S. deaths; advances in technology; and the aging population. Parkland graduates often begin working in a limited capacity while still in school, gaining valuable clinical experience.
