Search for hearing courses that will receive course equivalents for the units by the HCS prefix in the Course Listing. Parkland does not offer the hearing society courses, only course equivalents.

What you need to do to get started:

Step 1:  To apply for an Illinois Department of Public Health license as a hearing instrument dispenser, you must complete specific training by completing 30 learning units. Information for the modules and the requirements can be found at the following links. mike@P-A-M-S.com (make request) or www.illinoishearingsociety.org.

Step 2:  Become a Parkland College non-degree-seeking student using the online application process by clicking the APPLY NOW link (on the right).

Step 3:  Send to Parkland College, in care of Sandy Sauer, the certificate of completion of the 30 units or FAX it to 217/373-3861.

Step 4: You will be registered into the courses equivalent to the units; a grade of 'Satisfactory' will be awarded.

Step 5: Once the tuition is paid for the four courses, which is 12 credits multiplied by the in-state tuition rate per credit hour, you may request transcripts to be sent to your home.

Step 6: It is your responsibility to FAX or mail the Parkland College transcript noting the course equivalents to the Illinois Department of Public Health (FAX it to 217/557-5324).
Where you will find employment:
Employment as a licensed hearing instrument dispenser is expected "to grow as our senior population increases with baby boomers now reaching retirement age" according to the Illinois Hearing Society.
