Gain a thorough working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to
provide extensive pre-hospital care to the sick or injured, as well as
transport to a medical facility if needed, under the direction of
physicians. Parkland partnerships with the two largest emergency medical
services in the area provide you with exceptional clinical experience
in a state-of-the-art teaching facility that includes the “iStan” human
simulator and a training ambulance.
Our paramedic certificate (12-month, 29-credit-hour) and Associate of
Applied Science (66-credit-hour) programs offer the most advanced level
of training for the EMT, at an affordable cost. We also offer a
5-credit-hour Basic EMT certificate course that prepares you to provide
vital care to the sick or injured.
After successfully completing the state approved course, you are
eligible to sit for the Illinois EMT-Basic Certification exam or the
EMS: Paramedic and National paramedic exam; the average pass rates for
the exams are 97% and 100%, respectively. Work for emergency medical
services, hospitals, or police/fire departments. Advance to supervisor,
operations manager, administrative director, or executive director of
emergency services, or become an instructor at community colleges or
training centers, with further training.
The Parkland College Emergency Medical Paramedic program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs(www.caahep.org
) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
