What you’ll do:
Study an emerging industry with emerging career opportunities! Geographic Information Systems (GIS) uses data gathered from various sources, including global position satellite systems (GPS), to develop “layers” of information about a geographic location. GIS output may be used in mapping streets, utilities, crime studies, environmental markers, and in many other types of physical and societal applications.

Where you’ll go:
Your training in GIS will be greatly needed for roles as surveyors, cartographers, photogrammetrists, and surveying and mapping technicians. Besides engineering, agricultural, and architectural firms, GIS skills are needed to create maps and information used in emergency planning, security, marketing, urban planning, natural resource exploration, construction, and other applications. Pursue advanced degrees to further specialize and increase your technical skills.
