Mrs. Donna Giertz was elected to the Parkland Board of Trustees in April, 2005. She was just newly elected to serve another six-year term.
Donna is a graduate of Nazareth College, Rochester, New York, with her M.S. in Personnel Counseling from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and her M.B.A. from Miami University as well.
Donna was an instructor (part-time) at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio from 1973-1980, teaching business-related courses. She began as a professor of marketing, management and international business at Parkland College in 1980, retiring in 2003. She also worked as a legislative assistant for a senator on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. after graduating from college.
Donna’s community activities involve C-U Sunrise Rotary, Krannert Art Museum Council, Krannert Art Museum Director’s Circle, Precinct Committeeman, Champaign Township and Trustee, Champaign Township.
Her interests include history – Mary Todd Lincoln, the Civil War, Founding Fathers, and Ulysses S. Grant. Donna has given talks about Mary Todd Lincoln to various groups and has appeared on radio shows. Donna enjoys bridge, tennis, art and cooking.
Donna is married to J. Fred Giertz, a Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois. Fred and Donna have two children, Seth H. Giertz who is a Professor of Economics at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and Gabrielle H. Giertz who is a Corporate Auditor with Illinois Tool Works in Glenview, Illinois.
