Dr. Bennett has been a member of the Parkland Board of Trustees since 1995, and is currently the Chairman. Tom has worked for State Farm Insurance Companies in Bloomington, Illinois since 1985.
Tom took several accounting and science classes at Parkland in the late 1970’s. He received a BS in Education from Eastern Illinois University, a BS in Computer Science from Illinois State University, an MBA from Illinois State University, and a DBA from Nova Southeastern University.
Tom has always had an interest in education. He is a former high school science teacher. He served on the board of a pre-school for six years, two of those years as president. Tom also served on the board of the K-12 Gibson City Community School District and worked on the consolidation effort to bring the Gibson City and Melvin-Sibley school districts together. Later, he was a board member of the Gibson City Melvin-Sibley school district before being appointed to the Parkland College Board of Trustees.
Dr. Bennett is active in state and national trustee organizations. Tom is a Past Chair of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) and Past Chair of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Dr. Bennett was the first trustee from Illinois to serve as Chair of ACCT.
Tom and wife, Kathy, reside in Gibson City and are involved with local civic and church organizations. They have two grown children. Daughter Megan is married, has two little girls, and works at State Farm Insurance. Son Andrew is married and work as a civil engineer for PCI.
As a Parkland Trustee, Tom continually supports our cause with his “Letters to the Editor” commentaries printed in local newspapers within our district.
