Mr. James L. Ayers was elected to the Parkland Board of Trustees in 1989 and re-elected three more times. He became Board Chairman when John Albin retired in 1999 until 2001, served as Vice-Chairman from 2002-2003 and Chairman in 2007 to the present.
James L. Ayers is the former Mayor of Monticello. He also is CEO of Central Illinois Manufacturing Company and is an attorney in Monticello.
Mr. Ayers has been very active in state and national organizations on behalf of Parkland and the community college movement and has held several leadership positions in the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. On the national level, James served on the ACCT board for seven years, was Chair of the ACCT Central Region, and is a member of the Audit and Finance Committee. He also serves on the ACCT Joint Commission Federal Relations since 2006 and on the ACCT Trust Fund Board.
Mr. Ayers received the 2004 Ray Hartstein Trustee Achievement Award through the Illinois Community College Trustees Association, a very distinguished honor. In 2006 James received the Outstanding Central Region Trustee of the Year Award and the M. Dale Ensign Trustee of the Year Award for the outstanding Trustee nationwide by ACCT 2006.
On July 1, 2011, James will be the president of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA), serving the 327 Illinois community college trustees.
James also is dedicated to serving various civic organizations, including Rotary and the Boy Scouts. James led the first GSE Rotary Group Study Exchange to China in 2006. In addition to the Silver Beaver Award, he is the Past President of Prairielands Council.
