Hometown: AbuDhabi, UAE Year graduated from Parkland: 2013 Year graduated from Illinois State University: 2016 (BS) Currently working at: The Chicago Bears How does it feel to be a professional designer: It truly feels amazing! I'm not going to lie, it is intimidating at first to get out into the real world, but once you get into the groove, it's great! How do you like your job: I'm loving it! Working for a great organization like the Chicago Bears and being a part of an incredibly talented team of designers is pretty sweet!
How did you get this job: An ISU alumni posted about the position on the ISU Alumni Facebook page. I applied for the job and after a series of interviews over the course of 3 weeks, I got i!
What was the most exciting project you've worked on since graduation: I've worked on a variety of projects since I graduated and each one of them has been exciting in their own way! One project that I recently worked on with the rest of the team, was creating a compelling design for the field wrap that's going to be displayed at Soldier Field. GO BEARS!
What were some of the most important things you learned while at Parkland: It was at Parkland where I first discovered art and graphic design. It was a major i never thought to pursue because I didn't think I had it in me. But during my time there I had the opportunity to explore my talents and landed with graphic design which was the best decision I've made. One thing that really stuck with me from during my time there is sketching! I still do this before starting every project. It saves so much time, and helps filter out the good ideas from the bad ones.
Who is your favorite designer and why: I think there are many talented designers out there that bring so much flavor into this world. I really admire Zim & Zou. They're graphic designers based in France. Their projects focus on the usage of handcrafted objects combined with the digital world to create beautiful, vibrant pieces that are really unique and attention grabbing!
What is your favorite typeface and why: It's really hard to just pick one, but if I had to I would go with Franklin Gothic. It's clean, uniform, and It's a classic!
Do you have any advice for current students: Try your hardest to tear down the walls of limitations that we, as artists, tend to build ourselves while working on projects. Never be afraid to think outside the box and step away from the computer and look around for inspiration. Challenge yourself to try out designs/projects you're not comfortable with, because that's when you'll discover your own strengths and weaknesses — which in turn will help you grow as a designer and as a person.
