How does it feel to be a professional designer: One word — amazing! I'm glad I picked this career because now I not only feel like I'm helping improve people's life online, I also get to incorporate two things I absolutely love: programming and design.
How do you like your job: As I said above, I love being able to incorporate both my development and design skills. But the best part is being able to contribute in spreading the word about the great research the University of Illinois is conducting.
How did you get this job: I saw the position posted, simply applied for the position, and was brought in for an interview — and presented my print and digital portfolio.
What was the most exciting project you've worked on since graduation: All of the projects I've been working on have been great and I couldn't be happier! I've been keeping super busy doing freelance design outside of my day job. One of the opportunities I have now is to work on a logo set/website involving different interdisciplinary groups for the University of Illinois.
What were some of the most important things you learned while at Parkland: Some of the important things I learned at Parkland is to push yourself with different ideas and to experiment. You never know what solutions will work best!
What do you wish you would have done differently when you were at Parkland: I wish I would've pushed myself to simply execute each of my concepts. I was scared of not being able to present my ideas the way I had envisioned them in my head. I should have simply jumped in instead of just thinking about it.
Who is your favorite designer and why: My favorite designer is Jessica Hische. Ever since I saw her illustrations in my Illustration class, she's always inspired me — from her hand-drawn typography to her design style. She's such an inspiration with a great personality.
What is your favorite typeface and why: I don't really have a favorite typeface, though I can't help but love elegant, scripted fonts that are well-designed.
