Associate in Applied Science
Hometown: Paxton, IL Year graduated: 2015 Currently working at: Human Kinetics
How does it feel to be a professional designer: It feels amazing! It's hard to believe I am finally doing what I went to school for and what I love. It doesn't even feel like work!
How do you like your job: My job is amazing! I work with a great group of people who have welcomed me with open arms. They provide a great environment for learning and growing together. And of course I love the work!
How did you get this job: I did an internship with the marketing department during the summer of 2015 which ended in October, so I was able to get familiar with the company. I \knew that I wanted to eventually work at Human Kinetics, but I didn't realize it would happen so quickly! They called me two months later in December for an open position in their production department and I started full-time in early January 2016.
What was the most exciting project you've worked on since graduation: I have done a few wedding invitations and save the date sets that I have really enjoyed working on. I love designing something that will make a really strong first impression for someone's big day!
What do you wish you would have done differently when you were at Parkland: I wish I would have taken some of the exercises more seriously.
What were some of the most important things you learned while at Parkland: I learned to take criticism! It was very hard at first but I had to learn that if someone doesn't like your design or proposal, they are not saying they don't like you! Some of my most criticized projects have turned out to be the best ones!
Who is your favorite designer and why: I really like Chip Kidd. I think he is a brilliant designer and he made me reevaluate the way I come up with a design solution.
What is your favorite typeface and why: Wow! That is a hard question. I don't really have a favorite, I think it just depends on the design I am working with. But I have been looking at Baskerville and Bodoni a lot lately.
