How does it feel to be a professional designer:
It's incredible. The "unknown future" was always hanging over my head throughout my entire college career, so it is great to have a job in the field that you went to school for.

How do you like your job:
It is great. I work with a team of designers, interior designers, and architects. We have our regular clients that we supply with seasonal graphics or prepare artwork for new stores being built. We also get clients that are building from the ground up and design their entire identity.

How did you get this job:
The old fashioned way. The Art Institute hosts a portfolio show at the end of each quarter for all of the graduates. I met a project manager from the company, she took my card and said they "would be in touch." I was called in for an interview, was a little nervous about how it went, sent my thank you emails, and played the waiting game. I was offered the job about a month after my interview.

What was the most exciting project you've worked on since graduation:
A project called Popcorn Girl. A company bought the rights to the name (since it is already a pre-existing company out in Las Vegas) and they are building it out in Qatar. We are currently working on the logo design and package design.

What were some of the most important things you learned while at Parkland:
The computer is merely a tool and that you should not limit yourself to only that resource. I was able to develop some fine art skills, not Picasso-worthy, but enough to develop my own style. Parkland also introduced me to digital illustration, as well as design.

What do you wish you would have done differently when you were at Parkland:
I like to think I made the most out of my Parkland education. One regret is not taking projects seriously and treating them as if they were for real clients.

Why did you want to get a bachelor's degree after graduating from Parkland:
It was a tough decision whether or not to further my education after Parkland. I knew it would be expensive no matter where I chose to go, but I also knew I didn't have a proper portfolio to win one of the few creative opportunities available in the Champaign-Urbana area. I made the expensive decision to go to the Art Institute in Schaumburg. I learned a lot, had access to some very valuable resources, and met a lot of great people.

What is your favorite typeface and why:
Gotham. It is a clean, geometric sans-serif with a huge family for various uses.
