Hometown: Rantoul, IL Year graduated from Parkland: 2014 Year graduated from UIUC: 2017 Currently working at: Creative Services – University of Illinois How does it feel to be a professional designer: It's so rewarding! It's one thing to complete a class project and feel as if it was successful, but it's so much more fun to design for a client and their needs.
How do you like your job: I was thrilled to find such an awesome job in Champaign-Urbana. I've only been with Creative Services for a few weeks but I couldn't be any happier. I immediately got started on a pretty large project and it's such a good change of pace to be a part of the whole process from ideation through production. I also really like the fact that we're a pretty small team because you can get so much feedback and collaboration as a designer.
How did you get this job: My previous supervisor from an internship at the Research Park asked if I saw the job opening. I read the description, looked up what kind of work Creative Services provides, and instantly knew it would be the perfect fit for me because my design style meshes so well with their current work.
What was the most exciting project you've worked on since graduation: I'm working on a campaign for the School of Labor & Employment Relations for numerous street events they're attending in Chicago. The campaign itself had a lot of room for creativity and there are so many pieces to it: a custom tent, print pieces, and giveaways like fans, cups and stickers.
What do you wish you would have done differently when you were at Parkland: I wish I would have put each of my projects into real-life perspectives, rather than just completing the project and checking off all of the necessary components.
Who is your favorite designer and why: I've recently become interested in hand lettering and love looking at Lauren Hom's work. Her color palettes are so light-hearted and tasteful and I'm really jealous of anyone with the skills to be able to make their designs completely unique by using hand-lettering.
What is your favorite typeface and why: I've been on a kick of using Gotham…for about the past three years (it's a problem, I know). I like how bold, versatile and geometric it is.
