ACADEMIC STANDARDS
Academic Warning
A student will be placed on academic warning if, after attempting six or more credit hours,
his/her cumulative grade point average is less than:
6-11 inclusive - 1.5 | 23-32 inclusive - 1.7 | 45-55 inclusive - 1.9 |
12-22 inclusive - 1.6 | 33-44 inclusive - 1.8 | 56 and above - 2.0 |
Students placed on academic warning must meet with an academic advisor before midterm of the semester immediately following placement on academic warning.
Academic Probation
A student will be placed on academic probation if, after attempting six
or more credit hours, his/her cumulative grade point average is less than:
6-11 inclusive - 1.0 | 23-32 inclusive - 1.5 | 45-55 inclusive - 1.8 |
12-22 inclusive - 1.3 | 33-44 inclusive - 1.6 | 56 and above - 1.9 |
While on probation, a student may continue to enroll in the college; however, he or she:
- must have developed a plan for educational success in conjunction with an academic advisor or counselor;
- will have registration privileges discontinued until an academic plan of study is developed and approved by an academic/faculty advisor or counselor;
- may enroll in no more than thirteen (1 3) hours at the 00 level or above;
- must be enrolled prior to the first scheduled meeting of the class;
- may be required to take reading and study skills courses or tutoring in specific areas upon the advice of an academic advisor or counselor.
A student is removed from academic probation when his/her cumulative grade point average satisfies the requirements in this section for the number of credit hours attempted.
Academic Suspension
Any student on academic probation who attempts one or more college credit courses at the 00 level or above and fails to achieve a minimum 1.5 semester grade point average will be academically suspended from the college.
- The suspension will be for the full semester (fall or spring) following the term of current enrollment.
- While on suspension, readmission for developmental course work will be considered if the student files an appeal through the dean of academic services in room A113.
- If the appeal is approved, the student may enroll only in courses below the 100 level and/or in Applied Learning Skills and/or repeat courses and only with the consent of a counselor or advisor. Written notification will be sent to the student explaining the suspension and outlining the appeal process, as well as normal reinstatement procedures.
- The student will be required to meet with a counselor or academic advisor to review his/her educational plan prior to being permitted to register for classes.
- The dean of academic services will clear the student’s records
for regis-
tration in remedial or developmental courses only after obtaining approvals outlined in steps 2 through 4. - The student must be enrolled prior to the first scheduled meeting of the class.
Academic Dismissal
Any student, previously suspended, who reenters the college and does not achieve a minimum 75 semester grade point average while on probation will be dismissed for not less than one calendar year. While on academicdismissal, the student may not register for any courses.
Written notification will be sent to academically dismissed students
explaining the duration and conditions of dismissal and reinstatement
procedures.
Only the dean of academic services may clear a student’s record for registration activities prior to the end of the dismissal period.
Program Dismissal
A student may be dismissed from a program of study if his or her behavior in a classroom, laboratory, or clinic jeopardizes the safety of others. This action can be taken only by the appropriate department chair.
