Chaya Sandler
Title: Academic Success Coach/Student Engagement Specialist
Department:
Center for Academic Success
Office: D122
Email: csandler@parkland.edu

Parkland students through the years will come to appreciate the confidence they can place in Chaya Sandler’s competence (BA, English with a MS, Higher Education Administration) and dedication. After all, the one word she would use to describe herself best is “trustworthy.”

“I enjoy growing student leadership skills, program planning skills, and civic engagement,” says the upbeat Skokie native, who joined Parkland in spring 2014 as program manager for Student Life. In her current role as an Academic Success Coach/Student Engagement Specialist, she supports student learning, persistence, and completion through goal-setting and motivation, academic advising, connecting students with appropriate academic and nonacademic support resources, and helping students develop improved habits and strategies for learning.

Chaya’s commitment to serving students is a product of life with her family, whom she calls her inspiration. “My parents both work very hard and have always given 100 percent of themselves to others.”

When not organizing campus events, you might find Chaya shopping for her paper crafts and glass fusing hobbies, hitting the links with friends, or checking out a film classic at the Virginia Theatre. If she were not living life as an activities program manager, she would be working at an art gallery or trying to fill her (no longer) secret desire of being a racecar driver!
