An avid sports fan with numerous softball awards under her belt, it’s easy to see why Mickey Cler has enjoyed working as Parkland Athletics department’s head administrative assistant since 2000. The Mesquite, Texas, native says she greatly appreciates Parkland’s free parking, friendly atmosphere (which suits her own shy but friendly nature), and hardworking student athletes.
Earning her associate’s degree in 2006 “so my mom could watch me graduate before she passed away with cancer” was an unforgettable and proud moment for Mickey, who would have liked to be a teacher were she not in her current profession. Inspired by the wisdom and joy of her grandmother Pearl Leffler, you’ll likely find Mickey visiting Pearl’s homes in Kissee Mills, Missouri, on any given vacation, perhaps listening to 70's/80's rock and country music or taking in a Kevin Kostner movie (or any opportunity to see him!)
Her best advice to students is “Treat everyone how you would want to be treated"—sound advice for us all.
