Child Development Services Manager
Major: Child Development
Class Year: 1987
Kelly Russell always knew she wanted to “work with preschoolers and make a difference in the lives of young children.” After enrolling at Parkland in the mid ‘80s, she knew something else: “Meeting instructors like Nancy Gaumer, Judy Campbell, and Nancy Morse who were so passionate about quality in the Early Childhood Education field, I knew I was right where I was supposed to be.”
Kelly earned the AAS in Child Development at Parkland and transferred to Eastern Illinois University, earning her bachelor’s degree through its Board of Trustees program. She worked as a teacher for many years and was assistant director of Parkland’s College Child Development Center before joining Champaign County Head Start 14 years ago. At Head Start, Kelly plans and implements developmental and educational services for children and families.
“Parkland caters to everyone no matter what their circumstances might be,” she said. “The class sizes are small which allows students to get the most out of their college experience…and it is affordable!”
