Dr. Kris Young, a native of Moscow, Pennsylvania, taught chemistry at Parkland from 1998 to 2004, and chaired the Natural Sciences Department before being promoted to her current position. “Creating opportunities for student success” is what she loves most about her role. She says Parkland’s “shared commitment to the community college mission” is what she likes most about the school.
She enjoys reading (Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut is a favorite), alternative music, and vacationing in “any town that has a major or minor league baseball team.” It’s not surprising then that Kris, who served as her high school and college mascot, would choose to be an ESPN commentator if she didn’t pursue the educational field.
