So, what does a college library director read? For Anna Maria Watkin, director of the Parkland Library since 1999, these days it’s not one genre but many, via ebook, print, and audio book. Particular favorites include historical fiction, works by Sarah Waters, stories set in India, and anything by David Sedaris. Other interests of the Shrewsbury, England, native include yoga, meditation, knitting, and gardening.
Visit Meadowbrook Park in Urbana or Lake of the Woods in Mahomet and you might find Anna Maria there enjoying a long walk, perhaps listening to Bob Marley, Sojha, Nina Simone, or Mozart. She enjoys singing with the award-winning Amasong chorus and is delighted to have gotten around, finally, to learning to play the guitar. Traveling for a month in India in 2014 brought life-changing experiences and clarity to her daily life. Her favorite advice? “Be true to your heart.”
