Ryan Blackman has been getting the most out of his community college since high school. He entered Parkland as a dual credit student, getting a jump start on his associate's degree in computer science. Then, using his Parkland credits and taking advantage of Parkland's 2 + 2 agreement with the University of Illinois Springfield, he earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from the UIS in 2011.
"I really enjoyed my time at Parkland and felt it prepared me well for my time at UIS," Ryan said. The Urbana native soon put his education to work with the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, where he tackles computer networking issues and develops software to be used by the district. He also wants to use his knowledge to give back to future generations. "Some time in the future, I'd love to teach an evening programming or networking course," he said.
