Title: Faculty, clinical coordinator, advisor: medical assisting, certified nurse assisting, hearing instrument dispenser
BA, Fine Arts, University of Illinois
MS, Healthcare Administration, University of St. Francis
Teaching students about the exciting and challenging world of healthcare is her passion. Watching them gain knowledge and self-confidence from the classroom to the lab and finally in the actual patient-centered facility is what Rita Myles enjoys most about her role as full-time faculty. The YWCA's Trailblazer Award winner is no stranger to the hard work of student retention, and she is inspired by her service-oriented field, by Parkland's student diversity, and by the many stories of achievement she hears from students each day.
Rita loves to dance and enjoys reading and spending time with her four grandchildren. You might also find her meditating at the Labyrinth path at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana, which gives her peace and tranquility, or listening to old-school R&B or jazz. She shares with us the best advice she has heard: "Think before you speak. Freedom of speech comes with responsibility." Wisdom, indeed.
