Nora Onstand
Hometown: Mahomet
Major: Agricultural and Biological Engineering
Interests: languages, math
Nora began studying at Parkland in 2009, and her major is Agricultural and Biological Engineering. However, she loves to participate in numerous extracurricular activities as well. She is a board member of the English Conversational Club (EEC) and the president of Parkland’s French Club, which she restarted in fall 2010. The latter club has allowed her to learn more about francophone cultures than she would have been able to learn otherwise.
Named to the Dean’s list for spring and fall semester 2010, Nora’s proudest academic achievement was earning an A in Calculus 1. Nora enjoys mathematics; in fact, what she likes most about her major is having the ability to solve math and science puzzles. She also likes to discover new things by experimenting and challenges herself to keep trying. Nora’s favorite book is
An Affair with Africa by Alzada Carlisle Kistner.
Nora likes the Parkland professors because they always encourage her to reach her academic and professional goals. She plans to transfer to the U of I in the fall but hopes to continue the friendships that she has made with students in the Parkland clubs and with her professors long after she transfers.
