Class Year: 2012
I began taking night classes at Parkland College in 2006 while working full time, but as a part-time student, progress toward degree completion seemed very slow. After four years, I wanted to give up and move forward with my life. In late 2010, I was introduced to the Adult Re-entry Center at Parkland College. Billie Mitchell was an angel sent from heaven. She advised me to keep going, and now I am so close to completing my degree. Billie and the ARC staff provide direction to resources and options, and then I decide what works best for me.
Earlier this year, I was given the option of pursuing a BA and found that Eastern’s Bachelor’s of General Studies was a perfect fit for my education goals. I am currently enrolled as an EIU student attending classes on Parkland’s campus, and using this first semester of university courses to finish up my AAS degree. I’m looking forward to my graduation from Parkland next spring. Knowing I’m close to finishing my first goal, I can picture myself accepting my Parkland diploma. It’s very exciting, and I get a little emotional thinking how far I’ve come.
