Although it is generally associated with military soldiers and veterans, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect individuals having experienced other types of trauma—natural disasters, domestic abuse, and rape to name only a few. Within our own community, we see individuals suffering who do not understand what is happening to them and do not know where to turn. Family members try to help their loved ones, but with little literature out to direct them and show them how to help, many families wind up torn apart and lives are destroyed.
 
Several organizations in the Champaign-Urbana area offer support for families, veterans, and victims of domestic abuse or rape, many who suffer from and are affected by PTSD and trauma. We encourage you to contact them for information on their services:
